Bank- en Financiewezen / Revue bancaire et financière: The End of an Era…
Dear Readers,
During a strategic exercise the Belgian Financial Forum (BFF) has made several significant decisions to reposition itself. From a strategic, operational, and budgetary perspective, the BFF has chosen to focus on seminars, colloquia, and similar events to ensure their impact and quality can continue to be guaranteed in the current context.
One of these decisions has a direct impact on our journal, which will cease publication as of January 1, 2026. This marks the end of 89 years of publishing the economic and financial journal issued by the BFF.
Looking back at its rich history, we learn that the then monolingual journal ‘Revue de la Banque’ was launched in December 1936 as “organe mensuel de l’union syndicale professionnelle des employés de banque.” Its content included both economic and more legally oriented contributions from academics and practitioners. Over the years, the journal evolved into a bilingual publication. From the 1970s onward, it adopted a bilingual title, ‘Revue de la Banque / Bank- en Financiewezen’, and changed its format from A5 to A4. The covers were occasionally redesigned, and from the 1980s onward, they featured reproductions of artworks from the rich collections of Belgian financial institutions.
In the early 2000s, the journal was split into two titles: ‘Bank- en Financiewezen / Revue bancaire et financière’ and ‘Bank- en Financieel Recht / Revue de Droit bancaire et financier’, each with its own editorial committee. For this, the BFF collaborated with Larcier (now Larcier-Intersentia). Until 2016, both journals were published in print. From 2017 onward, a digital version of ‘Bank- en Financiewezen / Revue bancaire et financière’ was introduced, with different content.
Following the COVID period, rapid technological developments, and changing reader expectations—such as faster access to information and more flexible search options—the decision was made in early 2024 to switch to a fully digital publication for both journals.
On the eve of the journal’s 90th anniversary, we would like to thank our many readers in the financial and academic world for their loyalty over the years.
It is important to note that the BFF’s annual award for the best master’s thesis on economic and financial topics will be maintained, allowing the BFF to continue its role as a platform for young professionals.
The BFF is ending the publication of our journal, but it will continue to play a crucial role as a forum for stimulating discussion between practitioners in the financial sector in the broadest sense, the academic world, and supervisory authorities.
Once again, thank you very much for your trust. We hope that the countless articles published over the years have broadened your knowledge of financial and economic topics.
