Lors d’un exercice stratégique le Forum Financier Belge (FFB) a pris plusieurs décisions importantes afin de se repositionner. D’un point de vue stratégique, opérationnel et budgétaire, il a été décidé de concentrer les activités du BFF sur des séminaires, colloques, etc., afin de continuer à garantir leur impact et leur qualité dans le contexte actuel.

Unwinding the Stimulus: The Rationale and Challenges of Balance Sheet Normalisation in the Euro Area

This study investigates the ECB’s unprecedented quantitative tightening, analysing its underlying rationale, implementation challenges, and financial market effects. QT seeks to restore policy space and reinforce institutional credibility, yet its transmission and optimal design remain uncertain. Event-study evidence indicates that QT announcements led to significant increases in sovereign yields, while effects on other asset classes were limited.

Will the (re)insurance sector hold its ground while climate change is making the ground shake more than ever?

As climate change intensifies floods, storms, and heatwaves, the foundations of the (re)insurance sectors are being tested. This article explores whether natural catastrophes will remain (re)insurable in Western Europe, and what that means for Belgium, where exposure and premiums are both rising. Drawing on unique industry data, it highlights how climate risk is reshaping financial resilience and why urgent reform is needed to keep protection affordable.

The Impact of MiCAR on the Stablecoin Market

This article explores the early effects of MiCAR on euro-pegged stablecoins using an event study and a difference-in-difference analysis. It examines the impact of MiCAR’s approval on returns, volatility, and trading volumes. Overall, returns and volatility showed no significant changes, consistent with stablecoins’ claim to maintain a stable value. Trading volumes were also largely unaffected. Larger stablecoins, however, exhibited a positive return response, which may reflect increased confidence following MiCAR’s introduction.

Betaal je meer voor groen? De impact van SFDR-artikelen 6, 8 en 9 op fondskosten

Er werd onderzocht of er een verband bestaat tussen de duurzaamheid van beleggingsfondsen en de bijbehorende kosten voor beleggers. De analyse richtte zich op drie kostencomponenten: de aankoop-, de lopende en de totale kosten van een fonds. Duurzaamheid werd gedefinieerd aan de hand van artikelen 6, 8 en 9 van de Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR). Op basis van een zelf samengestelde steekproef werden drie regressieanalyses uitgevoerd om te onderzoeken of duurzame fondsen hogere kosten met zich meebrengen dan niet-duurzame fondsen.

MULTIDIMENSIONAL EXTENSION OF THE MODERN PORTFOLIO THEORY (MPT): From a 2D Frontier to a 4D Tool for ESG- and Regulation-Aware Investors

The thesis extends classical 2D MPT to a 4D framework that also includes ESG and Market SCR. It builds 4D profiles for 14 asset classes using returns, volatility, ESG scores and Solvency II SCR. First, an A Posteriori model generates millions of portfolios and extracts a 4D Pareto-efficient frontier. Second, an A Priori model applies investor profile to pick preferred portfolios, revealing distinct allocation patterns. Third, the 4D set is compared to 2D results.

How does weather influence market returns and trading activity in Belgium ?

This study explores the influence of weather conditions on market returns and trading activity. It is assumed that meteorological parameters influence mood, which will in turn affect individuals when making investment decisions. Unlike the few behavioural finance studies on the subject, this work relies not only on market data but also on a sample of retail trading accounts to better capture heterogeneity across investors. The results reveal a significant influence of sunshine duration, precipitation quantity and temperature on financial markets.
